All of the replicas I've seen have tinted windshield glass and of course the glass is clear on original Speedsters. I wonder if we could get all of the builders (who probably order glass from the same place) to ask for a production run of clear? If clear was available, I'd replace mine...
george, i have a contact at a window wholesaler. in the past i
have purchased winshields for other members [about 10].
if you need one i'll check for you, in the past "tinted" was actually
more expensive [still much cheaper than any speedster builder though].
let me know---bruce [bruceyoung5@aol.com]
George,

I just purchased a new windshield from Parts Heaven in the Bay area. It was tinted and the only one they had in stock.. I also checked with Stoddards and they offerred both a clear and tinted version. The price difference was about $60 more for the clear class. Clear windows although more difficult to find, clear windows are available.

An improtant questiond for me is what do owners do to minimize the chance of breaking the window during installation. In addition to following the directions in the fabrication manual, I have been told to soap up all of the seals to make them slippery. Any other suggestions?

Hi George/all
I am assuming those prices are "without shipping".
George my contact got back to me today, the prices are as follows:
1. Clear-----$365 [SIGLA brand, oem]
2. Tinted----$295 aftermarket brand
Take these prices and add $30 box charge, and usually Aprox. $75
shipping [to a business address] and you have your price.
If any are needed let me know.----bruceyoung5@aol.com
ps-the clear [aftermarket] when in stock is cheaper than the tinted
but the brand name carries some weight
pss-George, i asked about shipping to bc, cost prohibitive, swap it
out in md.
regards, bruce
Good info Bruce... Costs look good and the shipping is in line with what I was quoted elsewhere...Hayward is just a 40 minute jaunt for me so I picked mine up.

Shipping must be a real bug-a-boo with an unamed supplier/builder as my glass guy was unable to get a windshield ordered and delivered and I got a promise but no follow-up, so now, months later,
"you want somethin' done right, you got to do it yourself..."

Turns out I've been living with a tinted windshield all this time, no biggy for me.
