August 26th......
Fess Parker winery, Firestone Winery, Solvang, Los Alivos....
What more could you want....No lame ass excuses excepted....
Either come ride with us or stay home and look at the pic's afterwards....I'm giving you plenty of time to put this in your plans, so don't post saying how much you would like to go ...."BUT"....I am getting real tired of reading about all the whining, when you have no real plan on attending......

If you think a pot luck lunch would be cool, let me know and we can plan it, one of those wineries mentioned above has picnic tables for for lunchers........see below
Teri will look into motel/hotel rooms for those who would like to do an overnighter....I think I may do that.....

Vince,

Looks like the Del trip was a lot of fun. Sorry I had to miss, but was plenty sick. The 26th of Aug. not good for me and a few others here in the O.C. due to a prior Uptown Whittier Street Fair & Car show that day. Is there any other date this can happen? I would like to go with my wife, but I already paid my fees for this event.

Gabe
I will give you guys till Sunday to chime in with yea or nea on the August 12th (Saturday)date. It appears any date later than that is a problem for more than just a few members...I would like to accomodate
everyone but that is impossible.....
Teri is looking into rooms at the Scandinavian lodge (been there before) for any of you who want to stay over....Also, no response about the pot luck idea....just a thought, I could care less personally, but we have done that in the past.
not much else to say at this point, except that this run is a lot of fun, in the canyons behind Santa Barbara.....
last year I covered 350 miles round trip on this run from Redondo,
last week I covered 340 round trip from Redondo on the hotel Del run.
so they are about equal in total distance from Redondo........
Can we get a date that works for all of us??? The 12th 13th weekend is not going to work for me... After all I do live in Santa Barbara... Unfortunately it looks like I will not be able to go..Uh! The whole month of August is open except that weekend... Can well work around it? Thanks, rotnroby.

Robby, trying to get a date that works for everyone does not work.
Throwing out a date and adjusting to MOST of the members who respond is the only way that seems to work, it appears the 12th of next month is going to work for MOST members who are interested, at least that date is getting some response, where the other ones were negative.....
In the past I have readjusted my schedule to fit a run I wanted to take, so if possible perhaps you can readjust your schedule to fit....
I do not want to be the one who leaves anyone out and by all means if someone has a better way, speak up, I want to be as fair as possible to everyone....
Yeah, Vince that's cool... I am a working musician I have gig's through next year, if I pull out, the whole band doesn't work..This has been my big "bug a boo" for all the cool rides this whole year!!! I missed Paso, I missed Arrowhead, I missed San Diego, What a drag I will miss this one too! God!! and it's in my town! Owell Have fun, some day It will fit... Pease out... rotnroby.

Teri informs me that most of the 3 star hotels are booked for that weekend, she's been told that's normal for a summer weekend, nothing going on in perticular, also MOST of the hotels have a 2 minimum night stay....She was able to find one place, which she will call back today that has rooms and no 2 night requirement...
I will post later on the results......
Vince, my brutha!

Just as food for thought - would there be more interest or committment to a wine run if it was held after Labor Day - mid to end of September. Doing this after Summer/Labor Day Holiday might open more lodging options. Also, better chance for cooler weather (less than 100 degrees) in late Sept.

On another note, I could drive our 'other' car (see pic) as a chase/support vehicle - carrying pot-luck foodstuff, extra folding chairs, cooler with iced drinks, EZ-up shade, or whatever.

Rotnroby might be able to free himself to join us in September and since he lives down the coast from Solvang maybe he could pre-run some cool routes for us to take through the winery areas.

This wine run sounds like it'll be a lot of fun - let me know how I can help!

Peace - Out!

There were some members who said they would like an August event, we can always do this again in September. But the same issues will always apply, some will not be available.....So I don't see any reason to skip August.....this is not really a sleep-over, Im just thinking it would be nice not to have to drive home half soused after visiting 2 or 3 wineries. there are rooms available, just not in Solvang especially since most want 2 night minimums, fact is there are rooms available in Solvang, but not to my liking....
If I won't stay somewhere, I can hardly recommend it to the rest of you.
Vince...how 'bout this idea...

Since the weather stations forecast hot temps for the next couple of weeks, let's try to have an August event that keeps us someplace cool, like the beach. Save the Solvang wine-run for a cooler month (Sept-Oct) when its more likely to be under a 100 degrees.

I propose a Speedster Poker Rallye. This would NOT be a "speed" or "timed" event, but a bunch of knuckleheads driving around the coastal area, stopping at "check-points" (3-at various locations) to pick up a poker card (5 total, one card at start and one at finish), and the rally would end at one of the local beaches for a cook-out/marshmellow roast/wine-tasting. The car with the best "poker hand" wins (whatever prize - kitty). People can leave on their own time-line or stay until the Rangers kick us off the beach.

I don't know how to do this, but I'm sure somebody out there knows how to set up/organize a Poker Car Rallye. I will volunteer to help with whatever. Whadya think?

Peace - Out!
Jim, sounds great to me, as long as I get to drive my car......

what about the rest of you out there? a ride along the coast (1)
starting in the south bay ending, lets say, at the pier in Ventura, or farther if you like, with a few stops to pick up poker cards and and gas/rest stop.
Based on how many cars we have will determine how many decks of cards will be needed....we can bring food for a pot luck or fend for ourselves at the pier...

We can postpone the wine run till mid to late September....
Its up to you guys, I'm just one person with one vote..
Jim/Curt,
Put new fishtail exhaust/baffle on MR Shovel and I'm back in business. Hermosa PD approved it without me even having to start it up....I was sweating it big time....picture attached....note the license plate....

The weather has improved considerably, so is the concensus a wine run to Solvang or a poker run to Ventura....I'm game for either..
speak up if your interested and for what?
