Ed If you're running behind and it's in primer I know my paint guy Randy can shoot the fenders early Thursday AM and still make the Caddy Shack by 6 PM :~)

Will consider, thanks!
Progress on teh fender stretch. Got just a little block sanding (and a lot of cleaning) to go before color. (Well, more color).
Gonna try to find a little time to mount the new hubs and wire wheels this week so she can roll out the garage and get blown off and vacuumed-out good. I got other projects to get after...

I am way impressed with your talents !
She's looking great Ed!
Ed, fantastic work, who needs a painter when you are one?!
That's looking really good, Ed!
Excellent. Most excellent
Very impressive!
Im no expert... But I think your car may have been green at one point.
Looks great so far.
Oh yeah, she was green originally. Might be again some day.
So I put the new wheels on the front today. Except I broke the bearing adjuster nut clamp bolt thing widget. Or actually, I guess it was broken already, because the head came right off and soon as I put the allen wrench to it.
Anyone got one of these I could have?

Being in grease the threaded portion may be loose waiting for you to stick something into the hole and try turning it or drill about 50% the diameter and drive something into that and give it a turn. Lastly they are available in L or R thread.
'nuther thread going around here lately about pitman arms, stop bolts, and threads that should be fine but are not. Seems the broken bolt gods are working overtime. Ed, should be an easy fix, but where have we heard that before?? Hopefully you can rescue the clamp apply new bolt and be happy again. One will still wonder why this bolt broke -- any clue?? Wrung on too tight by a shade tree mechanic who will remain nameless?
. . . and somehow I missed all this winter "fun". My work report is really easy -- I ain't done shyt.
Hey everyone: the axle nut came right off. I'm confident all I need is a new pinch bolt. But where to source one?
The nut assemblies are like $8 online (Cip1, Mid America, etc. apparently don't stock). But since aftermarket cast parts are what they are, and shipping on this stuff is what it is, I'm hoping for someone to dig through their spares box and just mail me either the bolt or a new left (driver's) side axle nut assembly.

If I understand you correctly the Allen bolt broke? Correct? Shouldn't be to difficult to buy one. If no luck I can dig one up. If it's the whole assembly keep in mind the arm left and right hand threads for either spindle. 530-887-0800 pst.
Well, the wheels are back on Bridget and I think this fender-stretch project is pretty close to working out about as well as I hoped it would.
Tops of the fenders now cover (if just barely) the tops of the tires. Now it's down to wet sanding, final primer-sealer and paint.

Ed - There is always Monks V.I. Volks and the Buggyman in Lorton or Dale's engine builder Wayne Dittman in Stafford.
Nice job on that modification, Ed!
Thanks!
So I guess I'm the last guy Winter Projecting. Still at it. Sunlight on my bodywork was a bit disconcerting. But, progress was made.

I wouldn't worry too much about having to achieve perfection before Carlisle, Ed. One of the things I like about your car is how well it displays the 50's race car aesthetic. A little roughness only adds to that. If time gets tight you can do final finishing after Carlisle.
You going with the same Red?
The photos look good. You got WAY more guts than I do. Would never contemplate such a task. Body work and body paint is an art, no two ways about it. I'm pretty good with washing and waxing, but that is the extent of my "body work". And just to show how little I pay attention, I never once thought there was anything wrong with your fenders.
Same red. I might respray the whole thing BRG some day, but not at this point.
Thanks for the kind words. I like trying stuff.
Bit by bit. Got the color on today. Two coats, pretty smoove. Wet 600'd it and will shoot it again and then wheel it. I don't think I need clear but will decide then.
Then put the bumper back on and done.

On the road again.
Rolling dirty. Gonna have to compound the new paint. I'll leave it a week to cure first.
Next up: blowing off all that dust. Vacuuming, and disassembly of the engine cover so I can pull the idle air control valve for cleaning or replacement.

The wheels and tires are the same height as the old ones, Bruce! Should be able to lower the nose an inch or two with the adjusters for the limbo, then put it back after.

Find some spare rims without tires and put them on for the limbo contest.
