I have a 5 gallon bucket with about 1/2 dozen windshield wiper assemblies. Most have the SWF square motors and 2 or 3 are the round "can looking" motors. I guess the square ones are from 68-69 and the round from 70-72 --- cuz that's the years I dismanted over the years. Do the round ones have more wiper speeds (3?) and the older ones only 2? If both same # of speeds - any advantage of one over the other?

They're really all pretty much the same. I like the square ones 'cause they look older and similar to the ones in the original early 356's. The round ones look like the motors in the later 356's.

Some have three evenly spaced mounting bolts, some have three unevenly spaced ones, etc., etc. No real differences in the motors though.

The frames and pivot arms differ through the models and years, but everything can be mixed and matched, shortened or lengthened to fit. I just finished making a shortened a Ghia wiper assembly to fit the 356C, ended up using an altered frame and arms, Beetle pivots, and a later mid-year motor since I liked the electrical connectors better.

Luck,

TC
