Depending on the age of the car and the condition of the wires/terminals/grounds, you might be well served to remove the entire harness and go with one from Vintage Speedsters.

If you do what so many here have done on their first attempts, which is to splice bits and pieces in alongside old, you're in for a long and painful process throughout your ownership of the car.

They're simple enough to do. If you have to have the IM schematic, I'm pretty sure Henry at Intermeccanica can help you with a diagram -- which wouldn't be terribly different from the CMC diagram in the knowledge section of this site -- on a really old IM. I'm betting that if the car's old enough that the wires are shot, they're probably not where they were when it was built.

The Vintage route is fairly common in this hobby for cars such as yours.

They use a lot of the Packard style contacts good quality and a close match to VW . Also have some good relay kits and fuse boxes

If your going to make your own harness Start at a NAPA store in both their Automotive and Marine books offer more custom colors and gauge thicknesses..
