my CMC was wired by hand, we did not use a pre bought wiring harness. (i will NEVER do that again) My brother convinced me that this would be more fun and we would have a better understanding of the schematics.

It started out OK, but now 10 years later I have a big mess of spaghetti, and due to my Rivet/body flex problem, some of the wires (tail lights) are getting crimped and shorting out.

My true desire is to buy the complete harness from Kirk (I have used VS for all replacement parts that have come up, but if someone knows of another harness, i am all ears).

Here is my question, has anyone installed a complete harness into a finished car?
I am wondering how easy/complicated this might be, as far as getting the harness in place, snaking i through the body (where i will be replacing the grommets).

Obviously i will probably have some issues with not having the correct connections, i believe VS's harness is set up to plug your lights in, but my lights don't have plugs, they were "pigtailed" together.

Any insight to help me decide which way to go would be great.

Thanks,
Rob

i don't know about you guys, but every-time i have the back of the car on jack stands, I get this crazy urge to "pimp my ride"

anyone ever install hydraulics and make a low rider speedy?

;-)

I agree with Alan.....I've used Painless on a street rod, and they ARE painless until you pay for them - ouch!

I, too, wired a lot of my CMC from scratch, and while I got exactly what I wanted, it took a LONG time and my wiring diagram is a hodge-podge of nothing.

I've seen Kirk's harnesses at VS and it should be easy to snake through a finished body, using the same exit points that CMC recommends. You may want to get the headlight and wiper switches from Kirk, too, and make sure your ignition switch is similar so that everything connects properly.
Excellent, that is the way I was planning on going, this is the confirmation i was looking for. btw, all my switches (lights, wipers, ignition, hazard/directional) are from a bug, so that works out perfectly.

All though I do have a 914 ignition sitting in my tool box. picked it up about 6 years ago so i can have a porsche key, never bothered to hook it up. It looks like it is the same ignition, we shall see.

Thanks,
rob
Steve,
I have the 2 page insturctions from Kirk, but Alan is right, I don't think they will fax well. (I don't have a scanner to try to clean it up and email).

I am sure Kirk will snail you new directions, but if for some reason you need it, I can photo copy and send it if neccesary.

Rob
