Afternoon all have to careful review and Payne is taking repairs I am actually looking into completely re-wiring my Intermeccanica  speedster.  Just curious to see if anybody has any information on a full wiring harness for our gorgeous cars.  This is an older kid so I know that the wiring harness is probably been in this car for upwards of 30+ years so I would like to do the entire harness soup to nuts.  Any help would be appreciated please feel free to leave me a private message or a message here and just give me some sort of information and idea as to who I can contact or what company I can contact to possibly buy myself a complete harness to rewire the entire car.

Thank you in advance because I know you guys are the absolute best

My research in this field has not been productive.  I started at my local auto electric shop with the same query you have: how much to rewire the entire car?  The best estimate I could get, after lots of grunts and groans, was: $6500-10,000.  Even at that price, they're not salivating over the job.  It actually means that they would have my car on their lift for a few months, and would use it to keep any employee busy during shorter, more profitable tasks.  The only way they would consider doing the job was on a long-term basis.

Granted, I have LOTS more wiring/circuits, relays, etc on mine than you likely have on yours, but it was still an eye-opener.  I have since asked at other shops online that specialize in pre-made harnesses.  Bottom line; wiring folks make harnesses to sell in volume, and our cars don't fit their business model.

Henry at IM may be able to give you some pointers, but my internet research was a bust.  One big thing in your favor: Henry installed your wiring the correct way when he built the car, unlike the morons at Specialty Autosports.

I think DrClock still uses the harness from VS.  Believe it now uses the mini U shaped fuses and NOT the old ceramic ones.  To me it looks like the Empi Dune Buggy harness which is much cheaper (but has ceramic fuses).  You'll have to add grounds and wires for the gauges.  I bought a Painless wiring kit - but It doesn't mess with the VW bug wiring I tired to reuse so I took a beer break (a long time ago).  I've heard of folks using the Rebel dune buggy harness too.

I had to run additional wires for the gauges past the normal - been long, long time but I think it had a tach wire.  I can't even find one I got in their new catalog.  They all seem to have like 18 circuits now - mine was 10 or maybe 12. Rebel has a $229 kit for a VW that look good - you would have to add for gauges and grounds though.

JZZZAKE  I've used the VS harness ( Get it now from Greg/ Vintage Motor Cars) on a couple dozen speedsters to date .. The plus is the 7 fuse box is pre wired and the wire gauge and lengths are correct.   The included diagram is good too. You will have to add a headlight relay (easy) add gauge and light grounds , gauge jumper wire for power and gauge jumper for gauge ground easy peasy. H/O alt is not an issue you are only running a short wire from Alt B+  to starter solenoid # 30 terminal.                   ....Harness is only $150. and the plus is I know every wire  by heart if you get stuck.     You can, use a generic Street Rod harness but you'll have to split the harness to reroute the front engine wires to the rear and a number of wires will not be the correct length.
