i put my car together last weekend after having pro finish in pittsfield, ma put a clearcoat on it, and i have a short somewhere. my directionals stop working when i have the parking or headlights on AND i apply the brake. anyone have any ideas of what could be crossed?

on another note, pro finish did an amazing job on the car. they repaired some damage incurred from when i lent the car to my dad (big mistake). i had them clearcoat the entire car (i took all the pieces off to save on the labor). the quality product is better than i could have ever expected. they fixed every divot, stress fracture, and blemish and gave it a finish so smooth, i can count my nose hairs in the reflection. thanks to gordon for affirming what i had heard about those guys, they really do concours quality work!!

Sounds like you mixed up one or more grounds and leads when you reinstalled the lights. Just used a test light and a friend, track each of the directionals AND plate light and you'll find the problem, easy peasy.

GOT to see pics of the new finish!

Luck,

Thats the ticket. When you reattached your ground wires for one of your light assy's you did not achieve a proper ground.
Ever drive bejhind a early 90's saab 900 they all have the same issue,
blinkers work until you apply the brakes.
When you apply the second electrical load electricity looking for the least path of resistance will do just that and can no longer "get"
to the ground.
You can verify this by just making a jumper wire (10 ft), attach it to battery ground and go from light assy(grnd) to assy(grnd), when
you reach the right one your lights will work fine.
