For the record, I was referring to fire in the cylinders (where it is supposed to be) and smoke coming out the exhaust. Did not mean to imply that we would burn the garage down. But that old long-static engine is going to have some "growing pains" at first light-off. I guess it will work, although the condition of the carbs (gummy and/or dusty inside) would be a real concern to me. Could/ should these be opened up and cleaned/rebuilt?
I know how rocket scientists always like to finish off with a big BANG!

Bill - never imposing. Any and all HELP is greatly appreciated.

Theresa AKA BERT - let's try to tackle wiring then weekend of 14 or 15 Mar. See if ya can bring the mad scientist Kelly with ya. I'll get engine back in by then.

Bill/Dale/Gary (& any other local SOs or wantabe's) - If ya have free time just let me know when ya are available. I am actually finding stuff and installing as I can. Big step forward bolting shell to pan. Installed hood handle, front bumper brackets (they do clear my sway bar), and front support above I beam.

Did discover what the 2' long aluminum rod bent & threaded at one end --- that I recycled 2 weeks ago actually was. The hood holdup rod --- ARGH! Kept for 20 years then trashed on a whim. Guess I'll just use a stick.
Mickey -- I tried to call you, but your voicemail on the cell wasn't even working. I'm in NYC and will be southbound on Thursday or Friday. I'm gonna get the Hoopty in shape for the cruise to Greg's place this weekend. So we can expect you on Sunday?? We LOVE to have you!

Kelly -- Depending on when I get back to Maryland, I'm going to get the Hoopty out for a run before we make the ride to Greg's. I think the weather will be nicer on Saturday, but those things tend to change... Let me know what works for you!

Greg -- Ready or not, here we come!!

Bill -- I hope you feel better! When I was out with the bug, I took a hot bath every couple of hours, and slept the rest of the time. That went on for three solid days. I hope yours isn't that bad!
Derrr, I meant Voice mail, not email. Anyway, I LOVE my iPhone!!! I got it a month or so ago and it's made my life soooo much easier. Calendars, work blog entrys, camera, stocks, weather, and my favorite, the app that tells me my 0-60 time! Though I haven't used it on the speedy yet, my Scion Toaster does 0-60 in 12.5 secs!!!! WooHoo!!!!

It's incredibly easy to use and I keep finding ways to make it more useful. My onlu complaint is they don't allow you to recieve pictures via text messaging, only via email. A small price to pay.
Unfortunately I'm going to have to bail on the workday tomorrow (Sunday). I got something in the mail from the Navy regarding Cory's medical bills from last year's injury, and I have to deal with it tomorrow at Andrews AFB. If I can, I'll stop by after the Navy stuff. I'd like to take inventory of what wire and stuff Greg has, so that I can make a list of what we'll need to make the wiring harness. Cory's also expecting pictures, so I'll bring the camera if I come by.

I'm unavailable next weekend, but we'll see about the weekend after that!

Good luck!
No Pictures - our photo-journalist (AKA BERT) couldn't make it.

Starting to look like a car - Accomplished with Dale and Bill's help:

Front hood now latches (took grease on bone dry release wire)
Engine back in without TAIWAN chrome tin - OEM hammer painted now
Rustoleum'd floor pan bottom

I did hit car with Maguir's polish - blk gel coat still looks quite presentable.

Only glitch is engine hood won't close last 1" or so - hinge arms hit the squarish OEM shroud now that body and pan are one. May try moving hindges to oter side of pivot before attacking them with a grinder. Was surprised that 15-16 gal gas tank fits with no mods to hood. Not much room for any spare though other than can of FIA-A-FLAT. May look into relocating battery to passenger's side front wheel wheel nose (down the road).

Next on list -
"Painless" wiring
rear hood latch
Dash trim
windshield/tonneau/top/side curtains
Seats/install door panels/carpet
Gas-oil-brake fluid - misc tweeks/adjustments.

I see glimmer light at end of tunnel!

Greg,

I am starting not to believe my ear/eyes. Sounds like a car is about to emerge. Thes eitems you are talking about are very exciting. I was off the air this past week-end (obviously); didi not hear or have chance to even look here for news, so figured thw work detail was a little unsettled. I'll be away on travel the next two week ends, but available the following one 4/4. Maybe then? At the present rate, by 4/4 you'll be ready for a cruise -- which I'd support also. :-)

Keep 'er going, no holding back now.
Geez....I dunno. We were thinking of cutting back on the tool complement this year, although we'll probably be coming from two different directions and we're both kinda paranoid about each bringing most of our shop.

Gee...that might mean that we actually end up with MORE stuff this year!

(of course, the high water mark was bringing the compressor and all of those air tools a few years back!! In retrospect, we shoulda brought the MIG welder, too....)
Yeah, Gordo, what's happening there? Not gonna take 10 years for this one, are you?

Seriously, I think Gordon's plan is to move the car south to Beaufort, as he spends most of the year down here now. If it stays up north, it probably WOULD take 10 years. If he brings it down here maybe I can do some payback work, since he and Chris busted their tails on my car a couple of years back.

Sorry, Wolfgang. You can have your thread back now.
