I have dual Wolo Bad Boy's (loud and sounds great!) that stop working around freezing. I though water might have gotten into them and so replaced them, but the new horns stop working at freezing also. Once it warms up, they work just fine.

Anyone have any experience with these air horns and an idea on how to address this?

I know home use and industrial air compressors all generate condensation but I wouldn't think a small on demand air pump would create that much.  I did however find a brief mention of other users experiencing the same problem.  They were discussing the issue on a Miata forum but an answer was never discussed as to whether or not it was condensation.

Now might be a good time to see how well WOLO stands behind their product.

Two posibilities, one, when air expands out of the horn it drops in temperature and will cause moisture in that air to freeze, blocking the horn. It'll often start out sounding ok, then fade away to nothing if that's the case. Or two, the vanes in the compressor get sticky and either stops the compressor from spinning or they fail to seal and it generates too little pressure.

It's a common issue with air horns. That's why they're normally mounted in the engine compartment or on the radiator so they can be kept warm. Larger systems would also have a desiccant can in the air line.

Thanks all! I found it interesting that others had experienced this. I called Wolo and they said they've never heard of this problem. I find that difficult to believe!

Now I'm looking at these horns:

The sound is not as high as the Wolo's, but it sounds good and they are almost as loud.

FWIW I just put in a pair of HELLA Supertones and they are very loud and very nice sounding.
