They're best if re-wired through relays with heavier 12-14 gauge wire and H4 bases with new H4 bulbs. Although several on here have switched over to LED's. Lot's of previous information available through the search function.

The first time I drove at night I didn't think the lights were even on. It was like someone was laying across the hood and had a Bic lighter in each hand trying to light the way. I did however re-wire mine and saw a tremendous improvement.

Here's the write-up I did:

Note that the original diagram I used was incorrect and I addressed that in the write-up. Re-wiring stuff is not for the faint of heart so proceed with caution.

The relay is really important because the wiring on a lot of these cars is pretty wimpy and can't handle the added current of H4 bulbs.  A relay with beefier wiring makes a huuuuuge difference.

Along with Bob's link, do a search on here for headlights and see what else has been done by others.

You, too, can have Speedster headlights as bright as, say, a 2016 Nissan.

Robert, looking over the wiring diagram, what size diode did you use to keep the LB burning while the HB went on. thanx

Mike,

When I grabbed that diagram off the net I didn't realize it had the diode in there. I did not use a diode to keep the low beams on with the high beams. Apparently that is something the 4x4 guys are doing.  Read through to the bottom of my previous post and it tells you I had to abandon the idea of using one of the H4 plugs to build off of. I ended up bringing the low beam power wire to the relay and the high beam wire to a second relay. I used the car's original headlight ground to the relay and ground the headlights to the car.
