Will,
I was going to go tonight but headed back to the barn instead. However I am going on Saturday. These wooden cars are just outstanding and this is the biggest gathering of the year. I used to have a woodie and a steelie (51 Ford Woodie and then a 52 Chev wagon w/wood interior, metal ext) and was a former member of the National Woodie Club.
Wood is Good

Desi,
This show is woodies only but worth seeing. Hope to see you and other SOC members there.

Will,
Sorry I missed you. Got a late start and got there around 11am. Wow that was a great show! I haven't been in a few years (5+) and it sure has grown.
I had a 51' Ford in really poor shape and after a few years I sold it to a guy who shipped it Oahu, Hawaii and then drove it to the north shore. Since I bought it with no engine and had been stored for 15 years I did pretty good on the mechanical restoring but I never had the money to finish the wood.

My impressions of the show:
1. Damn they are big!
2. Damn they look like a lot of work.
3. A lot of Woodies for sale. (saw pricing from 30's to 127,000)
4. I like the mid 30's fords the best.
5. I think woodies are more combustible than our Speedsters but did not see many Fire Extinguishers.
6. Don't know why there is no company's that build replica Woodies I know that there are a lot of fiber glass hot rod body parts and rod builders out there.

Anyway a lot of fun today, including the drive up and back the 101.

Cheers
Dave

Sorry I missed you Dave. I drove the "overland" route from Scripps (the tandem road next to 56 to Sorrento Valley and then up to coast road and back about 8-11 with my kid before he goes back to school. No other speedies...................you got there later. Boy, what a sunburn. Ran fine except that phantom noise when in gear (not when in neutral) when you speed up which sounds like a rubbing or grinding. Maybe the clutch (but it seems to still have room on the play) or maybe the gear box. Oh well, I guess I let it fail and then figure it out.

Again, sorry I missed you there.

Fred,

I got a late start but the show was in full swing. Live surf music and everything. Did you see Will there?

As long as the wheels don't fall off (don't laugh it happened to me once) drive it like you stole it. Keep your cell with you for a tow in case of a breakdown. It will give you confidence in your car or flush out the problems.
