Hey Stan, I will take 2 of them at $ 50k each if you can point me to the right place where I can buy them...I am only interested in the ones that have not been eaten inside out by rust...LOL!Just kidding! My point was that if I own the real ones at $ 100k+ a piece I would be reluctant to drive it or park it somewhere knowing something might happen to it, just like the Ferrari I used to own. At least with the Ferrari you can easily find replacement parts for it, but a 45-50 year old Speedster? It would be a bit harder to find the OEM replacement parts for it if something happen to it. By the way, I just found out this one was listed on e-Bay. Check it out:

Who knows, they might even fetch over $ 100k for it because it is so clean!Maybe I should go and test drive it tomorrow so I can feel real good again about spending 5 times less for mine.Cheers!
Jamie. I lived off 121 near north Bedford, south Grapevine. I agree with Bill. A Speedster may not be in your best interest now, unless you are ready for an Intermeccanica. Get the 911, hell get 2. DFW has plenty of them and you should find a good deal. Check the bulletin board at Zim's AutoTech in Bedford.
Thanks guys for the advice. Are Intermeccanica's really that good? But the ones I saw are like 40K. Isn't it crazy to spend that for a kit too?

Oh, and as for the market for 911's... you would think that you could find anything you wanted in Dallas... but you can't hardly find any 993s.

Thanks
Jamie
Buy any Speedster that has good brakes and reliable engine and you will not be disappointed. Go for the look and the ride and that's all you should care about. 15-30K you have tons to look at. As far as real or not I cannot tell you how many 911's I have seen with body kit this or body kit that...they aren't real either. Have fun!

I know it must happen, because you read about it on this forum all the time, but I have never had anyone give me grief about driving a "Replica". Last Saturday morning, three of us, Dale Bates, Paul Harford and myself went to a get together of real 356 devotees. The crowd stood around Paul's car the longest and nothing but admiration was put forth. Paul drives a very customized Vintage.

From my prespective I think this whole "Fake Porsche" thing may be a little more imagined than real, very ironic don't you think.

I was kinda kidding before about only getting real or IM (and I know Jim was kidding as he loved his Vintage). Of course, as an IM owner, I really do believe they are that good and worth the money, but I know a couple of Vintage and JPS cars I would love to own as well.

If you get a 911, everyone will think you are going through a mid-life crisis; if you get one of these "fake" Porsches, they will think you got through it 25 years ago.
On the road when I run into a "real Porsche", they all wave first. I am a little slow because I haven't yet being a little self conscious about driving a replica but if they don't care, why should I. From 5 feet, mine looks like real one. Actually the majority of those guys are pretty interested in my car and you can see the wheels spinning in their heads. Most ask about the driving experience and I never fail to tell them that I don't really become too concerned about driving it most places. That seems to interest them greatly. It is a lot of fun driving these things.
If you can find an older intermeccanica speedster with the 1776 engine. it is plenty of car for the small price you will pay. lots of upgrades for the drum breaks to make them stop better and you will have the look that will outperform the 100k original and 99.9 5 OF THE PEOPLED DO NOT KNOW. For the puriest go for it but do they really have fun with the car and put quality miles on it with that special someone(so your wife don't know about her!!!Just kidding)
I have a 78 intermeccanica and enjoy the hell out of it and my wife and family love it. It is on the road summer and winter on a regular basis.

Enjoy the trip in what ever makes you smile!!

Jamie,

Quit worrying about the "replica" moniker and just drive it because it looks good! And is a lot of fun! I own Ferraris, Excalibur, Auburn, Corvettes, motorcycles AND a 356 Vintage replica (yeah, yeah, I have too much money! I've heard it before, but I want to spend it having fun before I join the compost heap!) Don't be afraid of buying one from a distance. I bought mine from a fellow off this forum and do not regret it. Get lots of pictures and talk with the seller on the phone and then ... just take a chance! The price may be better if you and the seller understand that it is "sight unseen" and you both cross your fingers.

Keep smiling, drive safe, have fun.

In reference to the 'replica' debate, I was in a small cafe last night after visiting my mother in the hospital. As in certain cafes, there was a television playing with some 'lifestyle' channel on.

The program concerned itself with aerobatic/acrobatic stunt planes - beautiful little bi-planes being flown by ordinary people. They were ordinary in the sense that they had between $60,000 and 80,000 to spend on a 'kit plane' that they assembled themselves.

Of course, it made me think of the 'replica/kit-car' question that constantly surfaces on this site. Obviously, these planes were replicas of 'real' planes, weren't they? Or were they 'real' planes themselves? Is a $40,000 IM a 'real car'? How about a $20,000 Vintage? How about a $10,000 home assembled one?

These guys were having the time of their lives, and it really made me think about this issue. I doubt if they could have done the same with an 'original' stunt plane, but I don't think they cared.

Hey Guys, I got a quote to ship this VS from Las Vegas to Dallas @ $1900... Seems a little steep. It was an enclosed trailer and only had two cars in it at a time so I am sure it would be safe... but 2 grand. Anybody in the Las Vegas area know of any car transporters they trust for less? I really want this car!

Thanks
Jamie
Jamie, I just reciently shipped a 02 Vintage from Kentucky to California....the cost was $1800 in an inclosed trailer. The transport company was VIP Auto Transport co. On time...nice people...easy to work with. They only transport inclosed....You can ship cheaper on a open transport hauler. The figure you got seems to be a little out of whack!....Check around....Call Vintage Speedster, JPS and Beck and see who they use....Those will be companies you can probably trust. Be careful sometime transporters will tell you whatever you want to hear just to get you to commit.....then you end up getting your car a month or two later. Good LUCK!
Getting back to the original post, the car is at $110K with 22 hours left.

Look at the bumper guard, the car just got 10 points deducted, which makes it a 90 point car, best case. $110K is a lot to pay for a 90 Point Real Speedster, that is, if every single other thing is well, 100 points. It looks to me like there may be a shill about as I doubt one of the Google Founders would go by an EBay handle of "japimportssuck".

Because, well, any idiot knows they don't.
Just wanted to say thanks to all that gave comments on getting a Speedster and just enjoying it for what it is... fun. That's exactly what I plan on doing.

I have purchased a blue/tan Vintage and it is being shipped from Vegas via VIP shipping. Shipping was $1355 door to door enclosed.

Talk with you all soon!

Thanks
Jamie
Wow!!! This 90 Point car just went for $ 118,100 Bill!!! Amazing!!!Check it out!

I think whoever bought this car must have way too much money and he or she is probably planning on just parking it in their living room as a show piece while we all go out and drive and have lots of real fun in our babies!!!

Cheers to all of us!!!

I went by my local Ferrari/Lambo Dealership today and sat in this fully restored real beauty and found out they're asking $ 125k for it! Click on the link below to check it out:

Cheers for those of us that own one 5 to 8 times cheaper than this one, with more power, more options, more fun and not afraid to drive it or park it somewhere, instead we have much more fun in it all the time!!! Cheers!!!

After reading the text of the ad, I was struck by the amazing lack of detail regarding the car itself. Much of what was written seemed to be about the business, the rules and other cars for sale. Somehow it would seem to me that somebody about to lay out 100K plus would want to know a hell of a lot more than the ad provided.

Oh well, some people have more money than sense. I guess somebody already said that. I agree and yes, cheers to us plastic-bodied car lovers.
Greg, if the rest of the car is 100 points, then they over paid by about $8,000, which really isn't too bad for a car that everyone in the world had a chance to see and bid on.

If the rest of the car is put together like that front bumper guard, then they over paid by a somewhat larger margin.

That is if "japimportssuck" is a real person and not someone's Brother-in-Law.
