Anyone ever wrap fuel lines just for gits and shiggles to keep them cooler? OR use any mechanism to keep them off of the intake etc, etc?
Just curios.

I had some heat soak issues with hot restart because mine were too close to heat sources. I used tie-wraps to move them out of the way.
your fuel lines should not be touching the intake.
no need to wrap them, just zip tie them with ~1" space. the intakes get prety hot.
When I replaced the 36hp style doghouse shroud with a stock VW shroud+flaps/thermostat (still not sure that was worth it and the 36 hp shroud gave more room to adjust the mixture screws on the carbs), the fuel line from the firewall to the pump pretty much ran right along the side the new shroud. I had an experience with what I'm pretty sure was vapor lock after a 70+ MPH 40 minute drive in over 90 degree weather. I put a thermotec heat sleeve over the portion of the line running from the firewall to the pump and haven't had that problem since.
I suspect that touching the fan shroud is way better than hitting the intake manifold, but they ideally wouldn't be touching anything.
most intakes are not realy hot when running, but some are.the fan shroud has a lot of air pumped through it so it's not too hot. but most fuel lines come up over the #3 exhaust tube coming out of the head and that sucker is effing hotter than the blazes of hell on sunday at a lawyers convention in satins basement.so the thermotech sleve is a very good idea and well worth it.I did a 2387cc motor for a 65 912 and that guy has it on all of the lines and the entire under side engine compartment tin is also done with it. I was working on it this weekend up in alabama looking at all of it, looked like something nasa had done.I did however see how porsche had all the tinwork on it and gave me some nice ideas for my 356 to make it look more like porsche did than vw bug.

That's what I did too; I replaced the stock 36 hp style shroud my VS came with with the VW OEM tin with flaps and thermostat. I haven't had a problem with vapor lock in my car yet; knock on wood.
