Alan, I have read that the narrow trim used on Beetles from '67 on, is the trim used on Speedies. But if I look in the West Coast Metric book, there are a number of different packages for those cars. Is there a specific model that needs the least trimming to be used on the Speedie? Secondly, is there a post for the exact length of the trim on the Speedie? From pictures, it appears that the trim extends from the door to near a point directly above the opposite terminus of the fender opening. As I continue the dry run assembly (prior to blocking and painting) I am trying to get all the holes drilled BEFORE I paint the car. (For example, the hole in the dash too close to the windshield for the center support rod--it no longer is there--a spot of "Dura-Glas" and "poof", it's gone. Just like the spot where I cut the front bumper slots a little too high in the front.)
Tom,

VS trim is Beetle trim but trim for your Intermeccanica may not be.

Current IM trim is extruded. I don't know what they used in 1979 if your car still has the original trim.

If you have the extruded trim, IM would probably sell you a short piece. They were very helpful when I bought trim from them. They cut the door pieces to the exact lengths I needed. One door was slightly different from the other.
I have a '67 VW convertible and a '70 sedan to measure for length on each, but I don't know the measurements on the Speedster. If someone would post the lengths on their Speedie, I can compare them to the VW's in the garage. It's my understanding that you need two sets of the VW moldings to get the long pieces. I have a box in the corner of the shop with several pieces saved from past restorations, but thought I'd get a new set (or two) and only install the best quality and "new" pieces.
I measured the '67 VW trim last night. The front piece (from the door opening forward) measures about 33". The trim on the door is 36" and the rear trim is about 23". The front hood trim is about 40". I didn't measure the '70 but it appears to be very close to the lengths on the '67. The measurements are not exact--I had to use a metal tape measure and it doesn't bend and follow the curve of the body well. Besides, it was too d#@* cold in the garage.
