you're in Cali. a new drum should only cost about $40. that said, you should either use the one you have or buy a pair. it's not recommended to replace just one side.

I bet with a hammer and punch you could get that race out in the same amount of time it'd take to drink two beers.

If it's garbage - whadya got to loose?
Paul is right. Whoop on it.

If I recall, there should be two notches in the brake drum casting that expose the edge of the bearing race. Hold a drift punch (or a big screwdriver that you don't want any more) in one of the notches and pop the punch with a big hammer. Hit one side of the race (through the notch), then the other side, then the first side, etc. After a few hits back and forth the race will be rocking out of the drum.

You can go easy on it at first if you are timid. But if it doesn't move, hit it harder.

The brass punch is the right idea if you are planning to save the race. But you're not, and I can't ever imagine going to the trouble of removing a race if I wasn't planning to replace it. So go for it.
