The car came with a built in wing. Anyone had luck cutting one down? LOcal Vette guy asks $450 which seems a little rich. I am willing to take a sawzall until it looks more in proportion

You're probably better off finding a normal engine lid for sale. Folks here seem to have them once in a while.
Maybe you can do a swap.
Those things are as rare as hen's teeth. CMC/Fiberfab marketed them for a while (I even considered getting one) but they actually shipped very few of them.
Try advertising it as a swap with someone who has the normal cover and wishes to go the wing route. Ya never know....... I'll bet it will sell on ebay, at least, if you can find a normal cover first
I agree with Lane, though......Cutting it down would be very difficult to get all of the compound curves right at the "normal" height with a lot of final shaping with an 18" bar sander. Your $450 quote actually sounds pretty cheap, to me.
Someone (56Speedster) on SOC just put a louvered Beck lid on their CMC/FF - they may be willing to part with old lid. RustyTubs lists regular ($?) and louvered new lids ($495). Actually MG Magic list both inner and outer lid pieces ($170 outer and $175 inner).
I'm one of few that like look of the whale tail on a hunkered down wide body. But then I like the 359/959 too. Picture are not my car - just for reference.

it does make for a nice platform for lunch.
my car is a fiber fab,Ive thought about the rusty tub luvered one for mine, but just not sure& havent seen it in person.
