I'm in Palm Springs CA. I have no idea how the shipping would work on something like this.
Have the bodies been mounted on a frame before?

Hey DMS, why don't give the folks at Vintage Speedsters a call; describe your "project" and get some input from them. They are in Hawaiian Gardens (north of Long Beach area). You can get the contact information by clicking the "MAKERS" tab above, 4th over from the right. It's only a phone call or local visit and the owners are highly regarded; shipping a Speedster body from Canada to the desert here sounds prohibitively expensive. (Maybe Alan Merklin, the multi-million mile pro driver could chime in with a guess-stimate?) Anyway, at least contact the people at "Vintage"!
When I bought my CMC kit in '89 - there was $300 crating charge and $1400 to ship by PILOT truck from FL to VA. Suspect same now but more costly. Ya might be able to put it in a POD and have that shipped but doubt that would be any cheaper. Sounds like time for a road trip!
p.s. They look like they are right out of the mould - so endlist possibilities.

Not mine - but looks new! Wait til you price out pieces to finish just a fiberglass body - $600 for windshield setup, exterior lights $300, door handles $150, etc.

Wolfgang, that Samba ad looks pretty good, when I priced out the bits for mine I came in around the $4500 mark for interior windshield trim bits etc..so $8000 seems like a good price.. D.S. by the sounds of it you maybe don't need all the bits.. If the guy just wants it gone I would maybe offer him $6500 and see where you end up.

Ive already been in contact with that guy in Samba. Hes ridiculously unreasonable and I would never do business with him.

SLATER - youre assuming I havent already spoken with them :) I have. But its a buyers market right now and I'm sure theres plenty of kits out there that want to get rid of the body.
Not knowing what all your needs are, I have to assume everything. If you don't want the help and input, why start a thread in the first place?
I will ship you a flared body from Thailand but frankly you are further ahead to buy the Cdn ones and import duty free under NAFTA
BTW I am thinking of selling my mould

SLATER - dont be a moron. Read my post again. My needs are simple: a body, doors and decklids. Would you like a diagram?
Name calling... next there will be incoming sand from your corner of the sand box Chill a tad people here are, trying to help you out.
Agreed.
I am not particularly fond of people who ask for help and then call people names.
Good luck on your build. I am sure you can figure it out.

D.S., calling people names won't get you anywhere on this forum. To put it bluntly, if you can't be civil, move on.

Scott, this guy doesn't need to waste time with guys like Kirk or John Steele, or take advice from guys that don't know s*&t about VW's like you. He's forging ahead with a 1977 beetle chassis! All he needs is a few fiberglass parts, that he can buy cheap, and in a few weeks working on it after school, he will register his 1977 VW bug/ Speedster replica at the DMV in Palm Springs! Probably in time for Spring Fling!
I think that a feel a leg being pulled................
