wtb: Gas tank & Black door panels

I finally got my speedster today.

I need a new / used gas tank or source of where to get a new one.

Also would like some black door panels if anyone has some for sale or again knows where i could get some.

My car is 1991 Fiberfab / CMC car.

Look for lots and lots of posts from me in the next few months. Its 60% done and i get to finish it!

Go to JC Whitney's site for a cheap VW gas tank. Search the forum for more info..... Try Vintage Speedsters for the door panels & other misc. parts.

For the cost of a tank and getting the filler neck shortened , go to Vintage Speedsters and get it already done for the same money. save some add'l money and make door panels out of auto interior special cardboard or 1/8" masonite and some black vinyl

I'll have to make some phone calls if Whitney isn't the way you want to go. I wish you'd have posted that a week ago, 'cuz I'd have had one for you.

(It wasn't me who got rid of it, TC! Sartwell had to move his shop. He called a scrap guy and tossed six trannies' worth of gears, lots of brake drums and spindle sets ... blah, blah, blah. Easily a ton of parts, maybe two. He had to move out within an 18-hour window, so he only kept his tools and equipment. Crying shame, really. Stuff going on in his personal life.)

I remember a fellow forum member who got a bigger capacity tank than the standard offered by VS. If I remember correctly he bought from JC Whitney. That's something else to consider as the capacity in the standard tank is somewhat limited.

When you shop for VW gas tanks, ask vendor to verify capacity. Most aftermarket "replacement" VW gas tanks are only 8.5 gallons.
JC Whitney sells one that is same capacity as OEM; 10.5 gallons.

Cory, I may have to take off my cheap sunglasses 'cause in the above photos I don't see any shock absorbers (dampers as they're known across the pond) attached to your struts.

fabricate another panel forward of the rear of the dash, the way you guys have been fondling aluminum panels, I am sure that you can make it look easy on the eyes.

Here are a whole slew of gas tanks from a little over a hundred bucks to a couple hundred. I'm still running down the list of my friends in MD/VA to see who's got one.

CIP1 has large capacity tanks that have a short filler neck for filling under the hood. Around $60.

My next thread will steering column.. I have one in the car but its not hooked up and it looks like it wont just " bolt up " i got a manual with the car but my first glance i missed that part.

The 16 gallon one was the one I got for around $65 --- I see price, like that for gas, has gone up! They also have the std 12 or 10.5 gallon one on same page. They frequently have monthly 10% off sales (once you sign up for their news letter).

Good advice for all: when you put your new tank in, coat it with POR tank treatment or aviation sealer. That will be that. Nothing worse than having to take the tank out and have it done over; avoid it and coat it up front.SW

I've seen the POR-15 product up close and it's just incredible. Our fellow member Jjr used it to coat the insides of the tank in his 1969 dune buggy.
