Hello everyone! I've been lurking here awhile and have learned a tremendous amount just poking around. You guys/gals don't quit taking the time to put your thoughts, problems, solutions etc. on the forums. I'm sure there are hundreds of folks just like me soaking it all in!!

So... I want... I want one bad...

To start with, I would prefer silver w/ black interior. Mechanically I would like something that's currently runs pretty well. I'm not afraid to change things around (engine, tranny, brakes etc.) after we get through the initial stages of ownership, just looking for something to drive for a couple of months before tackling any real time consuming issues.

I'm in the DFW, Tx area but I have a big truck, a great car trailer and I'm not afraid of a road trip.

Budget? My wife doesn't think I even know the definition of that term... From the looks of advice given to other folks, I'm guessing 15-18K would get something that's a good start and 20-22K would take everything to the next level. At this point, I would be interested in taking a look at anything.

Any advice, warnings, curses etc. would be very welcome!

In the next few weeks I'll have gone through a freshly painted red CMC, it's certainly used but a decent introduction into speedster ownership and on the low side of your budget and possibly adding whatever you might want to have.
I also know of a recently completed highly detailed vanilla white CMC in Greenville, South Carolina that is a simply a beautiful speedster in and out, (now has bumpers)I sold it to the present owner back in June and for personal reasons he now wants to sell it ~ Alan

Welcome to the site. A couple of months ago , I joined the site and started asking what I felt were " dumb" questions. There's nothing about these cars that isn't already on this site. I try to use that search feature on the forums home page. Also, I think I'd look hard at staying off of eBay for the car of your dreams. This site and a few of it's people occasionally sell cars here. I advise that you at least look at Drclock's car. He just posted above me. He knows these cars inside and out and was a real help to me. He sometimes sells cars on here (red speedster) now. Good luck!!
Justin - I would love to run to OKC for that event if the Goodguys show wasn't going to be here in Fort Worth the same weekend. I'll be showing another little hot rod there. BTW, your Speedster is stunning!

Alan - I've sent you an email! The Ivory Speedster is whispering sweet nothings to me...

K W - Thanks for the advice, I agree with you about eBay. My first preference would be to buy a car from someone on this site. I'm not in a big hurry, it's still hot here in Texas but drop top weather is right around the corner they say!

Yeah Mark, I agree, I wanted to buy a car from a member, that is known historically by the members here. I was trying to buy a car locally, and it fell through, and I was ready to buy a Speedster from Alan and the local guy caved to my price. He's got nice stuff when he's done looking them over. I set my budget low, $12K. And I got my CMC for that, however, if I could flip mine one day, I'd have to say those Vintage Speedster's are very well built cars, just out of what I was willing to pay... That ivory car is sweet looking indeed. Like the nerf bumpers!!
