The earlier smooth ones are 1/2 the price.  Smooth ones might look better - appears the shaft is the same size.

These trim rings would look nice on them too

There are those ones with the holes in them too - they must be Empi.

If you don't have door pull these aren't bad.

I think I might have an extra kicking around, but we're entertaining the Senior Grandson today and I might not get to the shop until later in the day.  Stay tuned.

edit - oops!   Just saw your second post....Glad you found one.  If the outside button pushes hard, it usually means greasing/oiling the bottom pivot of the actuator arm as well as greasing the latch mechanism.  Either way, you have to remove the inner door panel for access.

The ones linked by Tom I actually use all the time in my Spyders (that is the proper handle for the 550) and the quality is pretty nice.  CIP1 has the smooth handle, listed as "highest quality", for the same price. That's the one I don't know anything about, but if the quality is the same as the split handle it is worth the money.

The ones linked by Wolfgang at 1/2 the price are the same (or very similar) as the ones sold by EMPI and are pretty crappy.  They work for a while but eventually fold over, break, pit, etc... We have found a half dozen different manufacturers of the handles and unfortunately most have been the same overall quality, cheap crap in short.

Of course, the nicest one come from NLA/Stoddard/Sierra Madre, however you have to change your inner pivot to a smaller spline to use them.

Yes, the early and late VW have the same spline
