@Troy Sloan It’s too bad you don’t want black. Troy Sloan has a nice Suby JPS coupe for sale right now.

X2 what Robert said. Troy's is an "outlaw" style to go with your name. It's a very nice car and a good price too.............Bruce

It’s a great car but not a color I want and a little out of my price range unfortunately. But that thing does look mean. I’m just way too OCD to keep a black car clean haha

Thank you guys! Much appreciate the enthusiasm and knowledge of everyone here. Excited to get one and planning on keeping it forever and putting tons of miles on it

Didn't Troy just drop the price?  I have not seen Troy's car in the flesh but if it is all sorted you could easily spend a lot of cash on sorting out  another car unless of course there is someone who really wants out or you can do the work yourself.  Black cars all come with a wash bucket.

Lol love that comment. I currently have two black cars right now and my last 3 cars were also black so I definitely can relate. Was really just hoping to stay away from black cars for this one. With how much driving I’m planning to do I was hoping on some type of silver.

Thanks robert. I did see that and it’s a beauty but still a bit over budget and black. But she is a beauty for sure!

I'm with the OP. Everybody loves the look of a freshly waxed black car, but keeping one clean in a place with insects stops being fun the first time you spend all day cleaning it, then take it out for a 10 minute drive at sunset, and look at eleventy-billion bugs plastered to the front half of the car when you bring it back inside.

I love my car, the madness is strong. Not that strong.

The pines are putting out pollen down here and any car that is other than yellow has a yellow patina to it. Black cars look really odd under a coat of this stuff. Next comes bug season, and the bugs in Florida are legendary!

Suffering in that heat, the flies in August are no fun either especially at night   ....

I received a deposit today, so the Black JPS Suby coupe sale is pending.  The buyer is getting a really nice car for a very good price.

Great to hear! I was very tempted, glad that temptation is gone now. I'm sure the new owner will be extremely happy!

I was thinking of painting my future Spyder black. I think you guys are talking me out of it. Even Greg,  at VMC,  doesn't want to paint it black. He says it's a lot more work than other colors and then you guys say how much work it is to maintain.  I was thinking about the same color red as Rhonda was with dark grey inside. Then I saw a silver one at VMC with dark blue inside. I really don't want a silver one because there are so many out there. Anyone have and examples of other colors and combos ??    .....Bruce

The year I won the "Spectator's Award" at the Hilton Head Concours my white car was parked right next to a black late model Corvette.  Beautiful car.  Charcoal interior with red piping and stiching.  Lots of bells and whistles.  Convertible, too.  Only problem was, that line of 20 cars or so was backed up to a dirt golf cart path which had event people zipping back and forth all day in their little golf carts ferrying stuff to the food tents.  The dust they raised was monumental.

The black Corvette guy was dusting his car with a California Duster every half hour or sooner - more like every fifteen minutes, while his wife was dusting the interior with a tack clothe.  I arrived around 8am (freshly washed, both me and the car) and used my mini-duster sometime after lunch, just that once before the judging and awards.   I did notice that it seemed a little gritty while I was chewing my sandwich by the car.  I never touched the interior, but I had sheepskin seat covers back then so they self-dust in the wind on the way home.  8>

Moral of the story - If you're going to a dusty show, which means any show NOT on grass, either bring a couple of California Dusters along or just bring your white car.

Wow.....This was back when I was running those big 225's on the rear.  LOVE that look!

A year ago, when I was looking for my most recent car, I knew exactly what I wanted: make, model, edition, trim level and color...either white or silver. Definitely not black. POSITIVELY not black! Then I got THE call about a car which checked off all the boxes...except one. It was black. Triple Black! Because it was everything I wanted and then some, I did the unthinkable: I bought it, this black car. I absolutely love the color and it's a pleasure to keep clean. Sadly, however, while it came with everything, it didn't come with a wash bucket

twice a year wax is all that is needed to keep the shine up...

That depends on the climate and how often the car is driven.  I could get away with twice a year on the Speedster, but a black daily-driver in the semi-tropical climate down here needs it more often.  I try to do the BMW quarterly but will occasionally skip the winter waxing cuz I'm lazy.

In my well-deserved support of Troy and his builds, it is a very little-known fact that "Pearl" was delivered as a Black gel-coat CMC body.  I chose the burgundy interior to set off both the interior and exterior.  Both looked great and black on my car was my first love, but then, there are a LOT of black 356's in this neck of the woods.

Then......The guy in the office next to me arrived in his brand-spankin-new Audi A4 in Pearlescent White.  They only carried that color for four years or so, making it pretty rare, even in Audi world.  All it took was one look and I was hooked (Thanks, Doug!) and the rest is history.  Fortunately, the burgundy interior pops in a white car, too.

And lest we all forget Angela and her 550-6 in, what else?  Basic Black.  I honestly don't know if she still owns it or not, but whomever is driving it is having a blast!

You guys must really love washing/detailing/claying/waxing your cars. Personally, I’d rather do almost anything else to the car, including dropping the engine.

There’s nothing you can do to a car that will take a shorter amount of time to undo (with the possible exception of getting in a wreck), and it is guaranteed to be undone the first time you drive it. A good was/detail/clay/wax takes all day. All it takes is one drive through the country at night, or one bird with half decent aim.

If I lived in SoCal, I might think about a black car. Here? I’m not that guy. Life is pretty short as it is.

I'll admit, I'm strange.  I take thorough enjoyment out of doing monotonous tasks, such as polishing my speedster or cutting my grass.  I use those opportunities to light a cigar and let my mind drift.  Some do yoga or meditation, I polish my cars, cut grass, trim trees and weed.  With our stressful work schedules, I take solace in those moments.

The speedster is wonderful to polish due to its flowing lines.  I'll be the first to admit I'm fanatical with OCD, but I love seeing the light highlight certain body panels and enjoy watching the reflections bend along the curves.

My speedster has had so much treatment done to its paint on a routine basis that a baby's butt feels like sandpaper next to it.

THAT SAID......I do crave for a driver-quality classic as well.  One that I can park on the street or parking lot and never have to look back.  When I go out to eat in the green speedster, I make certain I'm seated with an unobstructed view of the car.

Plus Stan is not afraid to drive his car pretty much anywhere .
