In 1964 we were students working in the prototype shops at Fisher Body Central Engineering(GM). Union was on strike, so we were not allowed to do any GM work, but we were encouraged to use the equipment to gain skills. My friend brought in a complete Hurst shifter assembly, which he proceded to duplicate in minute detail, including heat treated parts and all. It worked pretty good after the install in his '55 Chevy.
You had to experience the difference between Hurst and stock factory shifters back then to fully appreciate how good a Hurst really was.
