Bill - since you are asking for ideas:
The mirror I use is a cheapo bullet style ($45) designed for a 280Z. I think I found it on ebay
I didn't want chrome - they come in some kind of powder coated or enameled finish:

Ha, they are still on Ebay - here is the link:

For fenders or the door of flared fender cars the TALBOT style bullet mirrors look great. Real ones are $100+ each but since Cobra replicas typically use them there are many reproductions available. CIP has one for $18. It can be used for either left or right side. I have 2 and the chrome looks fine.

I think the CIP 20% off sale ends today though.
Screw the mirror! (sorry Bill) Where can I see more of your car Dirk? It is absolutely stunning!!!!
The funniest thing - after looking at all the slammed coupes in the link Scott put up in another thread I got to thinking of painting my wide 5's a darker color and leaving the drums covers. Then low-n-behold the picture of your car has pretty much convinced me to do it.

Bill,
To your question - I don't know what the builders charge but here's one from NLA.

Do not get a top-of-dash-mount rear view mirror!! Only get one that will attach to the windshield center support rod!

Why?

Because the rear cowl (right behind the rear seat) is actually higher than the dash and you won't be able to see anything lower than the top of an SUV grill bearing down on you.....

I made up a custom center-rod-to-mirror-mount connector, but my mirror is a handle bar mirror for a Yamaha motorcycle. It looked about the right size....
