Woudn't you be better off with a a product meant for leather conditioning? Like neatsfoot oil? Or a "non-oil" conditioner like Lexol?

Sounds like you got it under control, Marty! I vote for Lexol (cleaner & conditioner)! Been using it for years with great results on my cars with leather seats.

My '89 MB (city commuter) cream-puff. 26 years old, 300,000+ miles still looks as god as new.

Dusty told me about another product he really likes called "Leather therapy" which I can buy at local tack shops.  I've used it for years on the saddle leather seats in my King Ranch pickup and when I sold it the seats were quite a bit darker, but had zero tears at the seams and no flex cracks anywhere.  LOVE the stuff.

Have you tried soaking the straps in olive oil and raising the temperature to around 200F (med/high) for 30 minutes?  That will cause the leather pores to open and absorb the oil and the heat should darken things a bit quicker.

You know, 'ol buddy: you keep posting shots of your rides and your cruise spots. You're making it really hard for a shallow person not to resent you

... not that I would ever be so shallow. Really. I'm not resentful. At all.

You sir, are the man.
