TC, I don't know if you're going to find any five-inch 928 wheels. Both of mine had sevens on the front and eights on the back, but I'm not sure that mix were original with the cars.
The '80 had Porsche Racing Silver-painted phone dials and the '81 had slotted polished aluminum ones.
Would you be wanting the phone dials or the slotted edges? I might maybe know a guy.
5x130 is how the lug pattern is measured . . . . not the rim width.

Late 924 ( I THINK . . . ? ), 944, and 928 Porsches had like three or four wheel different wheel options, all of 'em five lug. I'm looking for a couple of the simplest of them, a pair of the cheapest, most common variety
( I know . . . I know, CHEAP and Porsche just don't go hand in hand! )

I just can't figure out a way to chop the original beam out of the 356SC and mount a VW in it's place. I ALSO don't want to dump $500.00 or more into new front brake parts. For NOW, I'm going to run larger VW THING drums in the rear and no brakes in the front at all. I need a pair of wheels to put on it with the 5x130 pattern. I have the date coded steel originals which ought to bring enough $ later on, after stripping and powder coat, to pay for the brake work.

For right now, I just wanna drive it around some and sort out the VW transaxle/axle/brake swap in the rear.

Any help would be great ! ! ! !

Thanks,

TC
TC, there's a Typ 82 kit referenced on http://www.intermeccanica.org/vehicles/typ82/97saleslit/typ82sales.htm ... Maybe the IM folks know what you could do for a hybrid frame head?
Or these guys can maybe help you find old Kubelwagen parts ... http://www.mvpa.org/mambo/index.php
Here's a set of wheels; $150 to ship and it looks like they'll go for cheap:

Or these guys (one dollar auction with one bid and three days to go): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/origional-1989-porsche-928-wheels-tires_W0QQitemZ8069894959QQcategoryZ66482QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Researching the SC. I'll be back when I know more than I do right now.
Thanks for the concern Guys.

My "back burner" plan was to pull all of the suspension pieces from the beam, just strip it down to the tubes and torsion bars and see if I could use the stock Porsche bars with VW arms. Along the lines of what BT suggested, but utilizing disk brake Karman Ghia pieces.

If the Porsche torsion leaves worked, cool. If not, then try some VW leaves. I figured that I could use the red urethane inserts in place of needle bearings since I could turn the outsides to match the Porsche beam and the insides to match the VW arms, Easy Peasy.

Once the leaves were sorted out and the urethane inserts in place, then it would be just cutting/clearancing the bulkhead to clear the the tie rods and what not. The VW steering box would mount in a stock manner and I'm using a VW steering shaft and column anyway, so the VW aftermarket urethane connector would be the logical choice to hook everything together.

But, for this year, I'm probably stuck with Porsche front wheels and no front brakes if I want to drive the car at all. Time is a major factor for me. VERY little to spare . . .

Oh . . . I JUST NOW heard back from a Buddy who can get me some Phone Dials for $50.00 each. Kinda high, but I'll save it on the back end since there's no shipping cost.

Thanks for the help anyway ! ! !
