I've been looking for a wide body speedster. Preferably an unfinished kit. It could even be a new kit.
Ideally it would be a fiber fab kit. But not too picky at this point.

Setup a watch list for EBay and TheSamba. That's how I got mine. Got an alert on a Friday night that one (FF wide body) was in Jersey at $700. Everything but the engine and good wheels -most new in the box. Poor guy went through a divorce and left it with his employer -who wanted it gone. Several emails (and beers) into the evening we agreed on $3k just after midnight. Your results may vary.

2 on SAMBA now - a unmolested black kit for $6k and a red semi- complet kit for $9k. They are both CMCs but exactly same as FF (save for emblem and build manual cover page).

OK, so CA dreamin'. You will have lots of company out that way, plenty of Speedsters of all stripes in CA. I was gonna put in a pitch to have you join the annual gathering of those afflicted w/ the madness in Carlisle, PA in May, but that might be a long haul for you.
