One suggestion, though, edit the auction so that it is listed as a Porsche 356 replica; that way it'll be seen by more people.

I'm going to sell her and have a new one built....the new build bug has bitten me and I am anxious to get one started. I am so glad I bought this car I feel a lot better about the 40+ that I'm going to spend on the new one.

I relisted the car so that more people would see it and the item number above changed so if you had the old one marked you will need to remark the new one...........the item number above is now correct
My new speedster will be discussed after this one sells...I don't want to jinx the auction

Is the hard top going with it? That should be a great selling point for anyone living in weather states. The fit on your top is perfect and the hard tops are hand fitted to each car, aren't they? Truly a custom feature making it a year round, fun car. Good Luck Steven.

I have it currently for sale with the hardtop.......and yes the fit is perfect.
Can't find the new listing Steven. Do you have an item number again?

Stan check on the first line of the first post.
Well right you are, but in defence of myself, I did that earlier today and got his cancelled auction. When I type the number in now, I get his new listing, but when I just go to the 356 section of ebay- nuttin'.

I know it is really weird I just did a search with Porsche 356 in title and descriptions and it finally came up.......I edited the item number up above to make it correct, but may have only confused you more.........I don't know why it takes so long for the car to finally show up??????

Yep, I did it again!!!! Now I have to make a few decisions and order the new car within the next two weeks. It went to a good home.....oh and he is driving it home tomorrow from Des Moines to Kentucky.

Have you sold this car yet...I am interested in purchasing one of these...Let me know what the status on it is...Thanx.

That's good news Steve. Someone just got a good looking Roadster.
Former Member
The car is officially gone......heck he's half way through Illinois already and halfway home to kentucky. It turned out that the man who purchased the car owned several businesses and owned one within 15 miles of my place so I'm taking the soft top up there to have it shipped and he drove the car home. It really was an excellent car, but not quite what I'm going for on the new one. I was surprised by the slow start to the auction, but as things got closer it got real fast and boom the deal was over!!!
I learned so much by buying the used one and it really has made me feel more comfortable about the money I will be spending on the new one. I'll post my specs for the new car hopefully in the next two weeks. It will have some things the same, but mostly different, and thats why I decided it would be better to just build a new one rather then spend more on the used one.

Steven, congratulations on your sale. I didn't think that your slick looking roadster would be on the market long. I hope it went to a good home.

Well I am waiting for those specs.............
Of course it's not just a passing interest....I want to know what I forgot!
Congratulations, but I have to tell you the color combo choices will keep you up at night...If you get really desperate you can always contact Dale Bates and he will square you right away.

Or John Leader- both cars are just drop-dead gorgeous! Dale's car is perfect (the over-riders are WAY too cool!)- classic, understated and...well... prefect. John's car almost makes me wish I'd have another build so I could copy every single aspect of his color selection and interior fitment. I don't know, maybe someday...

Bill and Stan are right, it's tough when you start picking and choosing. Pull in sources and ask them the Qs. I'd pull in a few of the Canadian guys too... they can give you the run down on making that car right for Iowa weather.
Trying to get this build right has been a humbling experience, as my lack of 356 knowledge shows... but the up side is you will learn every single step of the way. Henry is a great tutor and guide into option-ville.

Henry is about to start my new speedster in few weeks.I have loved these cars since the early sixties. My best friend did a ground up restoration on a convertable D ten years ago, spent three years and a small fortune never drove it and eventually sold it for small loss.He loved the experience but wouldnt do it again. In the past six months I have spent some part of each day planning the build on my new car.Hell, it took me all summer just decide on what color of silver to go with.I have spent hours upon hours sorting through the smallest of details.I have met great people, seen great cars and received much appreciated advice from members of the forum.I have loved every minute of the process and even convinced my wife that we are not buying a speedster but rather an adventure. My only question for those of you have been here before is is it as fun to own a speedster as to build one?I think I already know the answer.Happy Thanks Giving.Brooks
I found the entire process - from concept to realization - to be thoroughly enjoyable. (I must have; I did it twice!) As with anything special, the anticipation (planning, waiting) is indeed half the fun.
But, when you get your hands on the finished product - and it is "dialed in" just right - well, the term "shit-eating-grin" was made for days like that. And the bonus is - those days just keep on coming as you drive your car into the future (some of us more days of the year than others - sorry, Stan).
And don't worry about "thinking of everything" or "getting it perfect." You're chasing vapors. There is no such animal as "the perfect Speedster Replica." However, you can come pretty darned close.

In one moment this morning the entire color, weave, leather came together.
That came after all the days, weeks, months, of pondering on the colors.
Ok, I feel good about it all now.

Hey Jim Bob.
Bet the reason you are happy is because YOU came up with it and you didn't have to pass the descision on to your wife like I did. Going to fill us in?
Brooks, how does your completion date look? Good enough for Knotts in late April and I'm sure we'll see you at McMinnville in June, can't wait to see all these new IM's churning off the assembly line!

Brooks, take a nice sunny day with warm temperatures, put the top down, if it isn't already, and climb aboard for a drive. The handling, the sound and the looks you will no doubt get as you tool along your favorite strip of blacktop will be a little slice of heaven. Well, maybe not, but as close as you can come in this life. If you are car guy down to the bone, and I'll bet that you are, you will know what I'm talking about when that day comes. John's right, a "S.E.G." will be most appropriate. So get ready to smash some bugs!

John Leader,
There's 2" of snow on the ground, and it's coming down so hard I can't see more than about a quarter mile out- BIG, fluffy flakes coming down as fast as they can. They are talking about 8" by morning, and 50 mph wind. Friday the high will be back to 48 deg, but it's too late for the big 'ol work truck.
Traffic was moving about 15 mph on the interstate- at least 4 pile-ups on the way home from Peoria (20 mi). I clipped the front left corner of my service truck (2003 one ton Ford Deisel dually cut-a-way with a service body) trying to avoid the guy stopped in the left lane- probably $1.5K- $2K damage to me, maybe $750 to him.
I love it here... for 7 months a year. I'll have the car out again- in about 5 months. It's gonna' be a long winter... send me a postcard with some palm trees on it, would 'ya?

Steven gongrats on your sale.I might get the chance to see your new toy in one of the Midwest meetings coming up spring-summer.Good luck.
Stan,
Thanks for the reminder of why we fled Illinois in 2000. Been there, done that for far too many years. I sold my snow blower, packed the van and never looked back! I had got a report earlier in the day from my High School classmate in Paxton. She said basically the same as you but the one ray of sunshine, all the leaves piled up on her lawn were gone, blown to someone elses lawn, LOL.

Stan, what Bruce said. Glad to be clear of Chicagoland for going on three years. I GAVE my snowblower away and was glad to do it. There is a threat of flurries tomorrow morning here.....NAW!!!

Love to have you visit. Place never got out of 1947......
Smell those shrimp, they're beginning to boil.........
Come on down to the "Low, Slow Country" when the snow gets to be too much.
We'll drive the Speedy over to visit Brian Hawthornwaite at Hilton Head......
Least I can do for the tips to fix my top!
