I relisted the car so that more people would see it and the item number above changed so if you had the old one marked you will need to remark the new one...........the item number above is now correct

My new speedster will be discussed after this one sells...I don't want to jinx the auction
I know it is really weird I just did a search with Porsche 356 in title and descriptions and it finally came up.......I edited the item number up above to make it correct, but may have only confused you more.........I don't know why it takes so long for the car to finally show up??????
The car is officially gone......heck he's half way through Illinois already and halfway home to kentucky. It turned out that the man who purchased the car owned several businesses and owned one within 15 miles of my place so I'm taking the soft top up there to have it shipped and he drove the car home. It really was an excellent car, but not quite what I'm going for on the new one. I was surprised by the slow start to the auction, but as things got closer it got real fast and boom the deal was over!!!

I learned so much by buying the used one and it really has made me feel more comfortable about the money I will be spending on the new one. I'll post my specs for the new car hopefully in the next two weeks. It will have some things the same, but mostly different, and thats why I decided it would be better to just build a new one rather then spend more on the used one.
Steven:

Well I am waiting for those specs.............

Of course it's not just a passing interest....I want to know what I forgot!

Congratulations, but I have to tell you the color combo choices will keep you up at night...If you get really desperate you can always contact Dale Bates and he will square you right away.

Bill and Stan are right, it's tough when you start picking and choosing. Pull in sources and ask them the Qs. I'd pull in a few of the Canadian guys too... they can give you the run down on making that car right for Iowa weather.

Trying to get this build right has been a humbling experience, as my lack of 356 knowledge shows... but the up side is you will learn every single step of the way. Henry is a great tutor and guide into option-ville.

Henry is about to start my new speedster in few weeks.I have loved these cars since the early sixties. My best friend did a ground up restoration on a convertable D ten years ago, spent three years and a small fortune never drove it and eventually sold it for small loss.He loved the experience but wouldnt do it again. In the past six months I have spent some part of each day planning the build on my new car.Hell, it took me all summer just decide on what color of silver to go with.I have spent hours upon hours sorting through the smallest of details.I have met great people, seen great cars and received much appreciated advice from members of the forum.I have loved every minute of the process and even convinced my wife that we are not buying a speedster but rather an adventure. My only question for those of you have been here before is is it as fun to own a speedster as to build one?I think I already know the answer.Happy Thanks Giving.Brooks
I found the entire process - from concept to realization - to be thoroughly enjoyable. (I must have; I did it twice!) As with anything special, the anticipation (planning, waiting) is indeed half the fun.
But, when you get your hands on the finished product - and it is "dialed in" just right - well, the term "shit-eating-grin" was made for days like that. And the bonus is - those days just keep on coming as you drive your car into the future (some of us more days of the year than others - sorry, Stan).
And don't worry about "thinking of everything" or "getting it perfect." You're chasing vapors. There is no such animal as "the perfect Speedster Replica." However, you can come pretty darned close.
Hey Jim Bob.

Bet the reason you are happy is because YOU came up with it and you didn't have to pass the descision on to your wife like I did. Going to fill us in?

Brooks, how does your completion date look? Good enough for Knotts in late April and I'm sure we'll see you at McMinnville in June, can't wait to see all these new IM's churning off the assembly line!

Bruce

Brooks, take a nice sunny day with warm temperatures, put the top down, if it isn't already, and climb aboard for a drive. The handling, the sound and the looks you will no doubt get as you tool along your favorite strip of blacktop will be a little slice of heaven. Well, maybe not, but as close as you can come in this life. If you are car guy down to the bone, and I'll bet that you are, you will know what I'm talking about when that day comes. John's right, a "S.E.G." will be most appropriate. So get ready to smash some bugs!

John Leader,

There's 2" of snow on the ground, and it's coming down so hard I can't see more than about a quarter mile out- BIG, fluffy flakes coming down as fast as they can. They are talking about 8" by morning, and 50 mph wind. Friday the high will be back to 48 deg, but it's too late for the big 'ol work truck.

Traffic was moving about 15 mph on the interstate- at least 4 pile-ups on the way home from Peoria (20 mi). I clipped the front left corner of my service truck (2003 one ton Ford Deisel dually cut-a-way with a service body) trying to avoid the guy stopped in the left lane- probably $1.5K- $2K damage to me, maybe $750 to him.

I love it here... for 7 months a year. I'll have the car out again- in about 5 months. It's gonna' be a long winter... send me a postcard with some palm trees on it, would 'ya?
Stan,

Thanks for the reminder of why we fled Illinois in 2000. Been there, done that for far too many years. I sold my snow blower, packed the van and never looked back! I had got a report earlier in the day from my High School classmate in Paxton. She said basically the same as you but the one ray of sunshine, all the leaves piled up on her lawn were gone, blown to someone elses lawn, LOL.
