Yet Another seat upholstery question

Here it goes, my CMC has the kind of seats you can see in the first picture attached, and I would really like to have the "original look" as in the second picture, does anybody know if the frames are the same, is it just a matter of reupholstering the seats or do I need to buy new frames and all the stuff...?

Well it may be BOTH. The seats you have now may well have been built from the shells of the others. For instance my seats are like yours now. But when I bought the car they were like the original shells. So bloody uncomfortable that I had a guy make me me new ones. But he used the original shells, took some wood and foam and made lumbar and thigh supports, like you have now.

So it makes me ask, unless your seats are not comfortable, why go with the other ones that are terrible?

Ignacio, your seats look like the standard issue on VS's; when I ordered my car I went for the original style seat; I don't find them uncomfortable at all, it might be because I'm not that big.

VS ones look like they are based on the Porsche 914 seat shell with high back removed and padding added. The Speedster buckets are just that a bucket -- anything over a 37" butt (waist) is a tight fit but got to admit you stick in place when cornering (no place to go!).

VS is actually making both seats. Stripped down original and 914 modified. I saw both when I was there recently.

Fibersteel in Pasadena California makes very nice replica Speedster buckets.You can get them on a fiberglass frame or a metal frame. The metal frames are quite a bit more pricey. Fibersteel is listed in the Shop's forum directory (see tabs above). They used to have a website. When I tried to access the site just now it seemed to be down (or removed). They display their aftermarket Speedster products at shows. Who knows, they may be at Knott's this year.

Yes; VS can supply either one; I ordered mine with the original style and I'm very happy.

I was asking 'cause, in my case, it would be more pricey only in shipping if I have to buy new ones (I live in Spain), but it if is just a matter of reupholstering that is another matter... and I am not any big anyway.

One moment I just remembered I have some pictures I took when I was cleaning the car up, maybe looking at those shells anybody can tell me if they can be upholstered to the type I like. And you can also certify I am not any big at the same time...

They definately look like 914 seats with the headrest cut off. Below are the "classic" speedster buckets. Only difference really is the side pieces come out farther on the classic ones so you sit in and not on them.

I have the CMC shells redone on my VS. Below are the pics. Comfort is subjective. I had the original VS and it was not comfortable at all, now they fit my rears like a glove ;-)

A&M Upholstery are the same guys that do all upholstery for Kirk @ Vintage Speedsters. A&M used a better quality/higher density foam.

Is it just me, or do those red and black piping seats look like 914 seats w/the headreast cut off. A popular old trick. No, I don't think they are the same, but your seats are more desirable for confort, so you should be able to swap them.

Ricardo; I agree with Romeo Victor, when I tried your car I noticed that Kirks are harder... CMC's although crappy looking are softer (to me more confortable), Im looking to upgrade mine...

Are there any happy medium options???
