Thursday went on a afternoon cruise w/ wifey (burning some time for her suprise B-Day party) the suprise came at Crystal Cove when in 3rd gear I jump on it all of a sudden all Hell breaks loose in the engine compartment, I coast to the Shake stand on P.C.H. and park, at lease I ended up at a great area for a beautiful sunset. Check the damage the altenator stand is completely broke ( I later found the fan blew up)ended up replacing fan, shroud, new belt, altenator stand/pully and oil ( to be safe) back on the road today, any simalar stories??? That same thing happened to me I was idling in my Dune Buggy next thing the Fan Blows up and breaks in many pieces in the shround, the Alternator stand breaks from the top of the case, busts up the shround, broke some fins on the cylinders! Huge job, lose money situation but, I had to fix and replace a lot of parts!

When replacing the Fan make sure to buy a "Welded Balanced Fan". Very important!!!

That's exactly what I did when I swapped my heads, carburetion, exhaust, et.al! Cory; obviously the welded and balanced Gene Berg unit is second to none (cost about $100.00) but I bought the Scat unit from my local VW shop. It looks alright to me although the guy who ported my cylinder heads and assembled the engine with me isn't too sure. I admit I've only gone to around 4,500 RPMS in my engine but it seems to work fine.
