The 73 Beetle Auto I just bought sight unseen and drove 10 hours to pick up turns out to be really a swing axle. I now find out that VW made swing axles for the ROW market and did not change in 69 as I always thought. The Auto function is little more than a trunk badge. Little wonder why IRS is rare in Thailand

This car has a Z-bar at the rear. Unless I can devise a mount to the inner fender well there seems no way to use this bar.

What is the consensus on Z-bar VS camber compensator, with a roll bar thrown into the mix

I have been thinking of shimming the Z-bar so that there is no give other than the rubber bushings in compression, and also fitting a camber compensator.

The problem is fitting the inner fender well bracket, but I imagine I can reinforce this fiberglass panel and figure it out.

There is a discussion of this now on Shoptalk Forum
