I have a very good friend who owns an upholstery shop and he was over at Don's yesterday and saw my Speedster. I had put the top up and side curtains in to keep some of the dust and crap out until I get around to ordering a car cover on it(retirement procrastination). Anyway Murph was looking over the top and the way the side curtains do not fit real well and he asked me why not put in zip on/off side curtains? Murph said a lot of old sports cars had these installed in place of side curtains, he said the shop has done a few of these on older MG's, etc. because they can be made to seal much better against the wind and the elements than side curtains do.

It sounded pretty good to me and the cost for both sides would cost about $300-350. I've known Murph for years and he has done upholstery and top work for me on several cars, jeeps and trucks and the shop has done a lot of custom car interior work. Murph did say he thought the VS top was well built overall. I know this would not be 'Speedster correct' but I do not really care about that.

Any one have any thoughts on doing this?

I already did the design work for zip in side curtains and have proto-type set that work very well, ( I have them on a silver VS super wide body three years ago at Carlisle) all that needs to be done is the upper surface needs to be sewn to your top, that's it...I can get these made up as needed. The distortion in the plastic is mostly optical in the photo

$300, is this just to add zippers to existing side curtains or is he starting from scratch?

No this would be from scratch. I'm going to stop by the shop this week and look at some photos he has from installations on some other sports cars the shop has done.

Alan,

Those side curtains look very good. How is the front attached to the windshield posts?
